Yogyakarta Earthquake

I am increasingly concerned about the safety of some of my friends from the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta in central Java as I have been unable to contact them.

My friends cellular telephone rang out when I tried to call, however they may have simply been unable to get the phone especially if they had to get out of their home in a hurry. I know their house and I am not confident that it would have survived, however they are north of the city centre and the news is saying that most of the damage is in the south.

Like with every earthquake, each time I read the news the death toll has climbed higher.

Moving on

It’s fair to say that I have not been happy with my work with Post.

I enjoy the work, I enjoy the social interaction with some really really good people that I work with and I particularly enjoy the flexibility that starting and finishing early gives me.

Having said that, I do not enjoy having to go to work when I am not feeling well simply because I cannot get someone to replace me. I also don’t like the increasing conditions that they are placing on us, such as needing to give 6 months notice if you want to take time off.

It’s running costs that are really killing me now though. That and a slow decrease in my revenue base is making this job increasingly difficult.

Once I used to make a comfortable living off the work, the last two years I have been barely surviving.

With that in mind I have decided that I will no longer do the post deliveries.

It is something that I have been thinking about for the last five or six months but last week I decided that enough was enough.

I don’t know when I will finish up. My contract is up for renewal at the end of next month so I may leave then or I might wait until the end of October. I also have no idea what I will do next but I am not worried about that as I have a couple of good leads and I can always find work of some description.

Still, having made a definite decision to go has taken a weight off my mind.

Login Error

At the risk of counting ones chickens before they have hatched I believe I may have fixed the login problem that I was having before

In the administration for the module that controls the login there is a URL redirect section that tells the module where to send users once they have logged in. If this field is left blank it should return users to the front page after login.

I changed this field just adding a forward slash / and it appears to be working.

If you still have login issues please let me know.

Olympic Park

The final lot of photos from my trip to Sydney. A quick visit to the Sydney Olympic park.

A collection of poles containing names of the voluneteers at the 2000 Olympics as well as other interesting pieces of information regarding the games.

Lots of names, including a namesake.

Telstra Stadium, the main venue.

Australian Rugby League fans heading to the game.

I’m not heading in there..

I’m heading back there. (The pole tracking the Olympic torch relay locations)

Circular Quay

After we left Sydney tower we headed down to Circular Quay, it was starting to get dark which I think is the perfect time for some shots of the Iconic landmarks of Australia’s largest city.

Photo Gallery

The Photo Gallery is now working properly.

I had been kinda pulling my hair out on it because it was not letting me add one of the paths to the configuration file. Every time that I tried to add it, it just disappeared from the field.

I had been looking through the support forum without much success until Friday when I found a little piece of information that helped me out.

It seems someone else had the same problem for the same reason as me and the reason was thus –

The version of Joomla that I have installed is current but not the absolute latest version so when I first installed the bridge it absolutely refused to work with the gallery. I soon realised that I needed to install the previous version of the bridge so I uninstalled and downgraded to the previous version.

It seemed to be fine but it would not let me put in the field that tells the relative server path to the gallery.

It turns out that when I installed the bridge originally it set up the tables in the database for that version and left a redundancy in the table when I downgraded.

So I logged into the database through phpmyadmin and deleted the g2 tables, uninstalled the bridge and reinstalled again.

It worked like a charm so I spent Friday afternoon and Saturday night setting up the gallery.
