A question for Wyn

I can’t believe I won something, so good, so unexpected. It turns out that I was the 600th person to comment on Wyn’s website and my prize is I get to ask a question and request a photograph..

Oh goodie.. Homework!

Wyn is also Buddhist and my first thoughts were to ask a question relating to one of the precepts, but that could possibly be uninteresting for other readers (i.e. downright boring).
It was the photography meme site Thursday Challenge that gave me the idea of what to ask. The subject this week is “Devotion” and I went out and took some photographs of Temples in my area..

As a result, I have decided to go with this question.

Here in Australia we are very lucky to be a multi-cultural society. I know one street not very far from me that, in the space of just 500 metres has a Mosque, a Buddhist Temple and a Christian Church.
Because Switzerland is a much more traditional European country, I was wondering if they have m/any temples there?

Hopefully you do because for my photo request I would be really pleased if you could take a photo of one for me.

As I feel that it is only fair for me to reciprocate with this, I have included a photo of a Vietnamese Temple that is in my delivery area.

Weird Weather

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

A couple of weeks ago I posted about some weird weather where the temperature actually rose overnight.

Here’s some more!

Last week we were enjoying summer and yesterday it was Winter.
Thursday was quite cool in the morning so I put on long pants and dragged my light weight work jacket out from under the passenger seat where it has been sitting for the last four months because I was too lazy to take it in and hang it up! By mid morning however, it was pleasant enough that I didn’t need it.

Yesterday the temperature plummeted. It was cold, it was wet and it was blowing a gale outside.

At lunch time I went to visit my mother. I had been in the house wearing my favourite warm jumper, a Stussy one that is about 13 years old now and is nice and warm, but it is not really suitable for wearing out these days and we were planning on going to the Galleria to do some shopping. So instead I put on a nice warm jumper and walked outside to leave.

And walked straight back in again!

It was so cold I actually got out my heavy winter coat to wear. It was not so much the temperature but the wind factor that was chilling me. Perth is actually a very windy place and is said to be the third windiest city on the planet after Auckland and Chicago.

To put things in perspective here is some data from the Bureau of Meteorology

23 March 2005
The overnight minimum was 17.2 at 0605 hours
Today’s maximum was 41.9 at 1333hours

1 April 2005
The overnight minimum was 11.8 at 0628 hours
Today’s maximum was 14.7 at 1152hours

Brrrrrrrrrrr!

Thursday Challenge – Food

Cityscape, then Technology and now Food..

Three weeks and three of my favourite things to photograph has left me with a problem of being spoilt for choice. In the end I picked this photo due to the contrasting red and green in the sauces.

Oh, and it was every bit as tasty as it looks!

The Autons return

The new series of Doctor Who began last night on the BBC and while I will have to wait to see this episode, I now know that for the first story of the new series it was decided to bring back a classic menace from the Jon Pertwee era… The Autons.

The Autons are the embodiment for the Nestene, an intelligent energy that can control plastic. The 1971 story Terror of the Autons was one of the most terrifying and complained about episodes of it’s time. Think shop dummies coming to life and shooting people, an inflatable chair swallowing up it’s victim, telephone cords wrapping around their victims throats to strangle them and plastic daffodils that spray a plastic mask over the victims face suffocating them and it’s not hard to see why.

Some images from the first episode are available on the BBC website..

Thursday Challenge – Technology

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

A subject like Technology should be easy for a gadget junkie to achieve, however I have noticed in the past that the assignments that I think should be easy become increasingly difficult when I get spoilt for choice.

In the end I decided to approach it using the technology that helps to share images so easily and quickly. The camera is my mothers new Sony Cybershot DSCP100 taken with my Fugifilm FinePix F700

Thursday Challenge – Water

Again I am back to re-posting photos (sorry mum!), but this photo I took for Flip’s Monthly PhotoQuest was far too good to ignore.. Oh and also far superior to anything else I took this week in an attempt to fulfil this challenge.
